Developed by:
Juteborg Sweden AB
Where did the project idea come from?
from Juteborg.
Why did you select that specific target country?
Bangladesh is the focus country of Jutebog. It is the country where the finest quality jute is grown and also the second largest volume of jute in the world is produced, only after India.Almost 1/3 of of Bangladesh population of 170 million people is depending on the jute industry, in one way or another, which means around 50 million people.Half of these are bottom of the pyramid people earning USD 1.6 I day duringjute season. Uplifting jute in the value chain and uplifting it in Bangladesh itself has the potential of uplifting 50 million people. Jute used to be no 1 export income for Bangladesh but dropped down to no 3. Juteborg discuss with the Jute minister to bring it up to no 1 again.
The plastic pipe market in Bangladesh is estimated as 670 million with 20% annual growth. The plastic pipe market in Bangladesh will grow further as the country plans to put the overhead cables underground in all the cities. This national project adds up the additional opportunity which the VAP associated business model has greater possibility to exploit. The sustainable JuteSnapSpl itPipelU solution could eliminate the problem of long-time consuming installation which makes the life of the millions city dwellers miserable by its fastest installation solution. Plastic contributes 1% of the Bangladesh GDP where 100% of the virgin plastic is imported. Inclusion of Jute (GDP contribution 2%) as the sustainable alternative to plastic material with recycled quality polypropylene, like crashed car bumpers etc Bangladesh can be more self-sufficient in the plastic market, creating large benefit for its economy. Bangladesh economy is additionally benefited as the national crop jute will be used as the input material with local recycled plastics. A complement to the ongoing strategic national drive to diversify the Jute industry. It will provide with a cost effective and sustainable solution. Additionally, the success of this market would open the window of other markets in South east Asia since Bangladesh is geographically in a strategic location – in the center of 3 billion people.
